Qatar Airways introduces the most luxurious Business Class to date

The travel community is abuzz with Berlin hosting the largest travel trade show. For days, Qatar Airways was expected to become a key player of this year’s edition…and the airline did not disappoint.
On the first day of the fair, Chief Executive Akbar Al Baker announced a potential order of 50 Airbus A321neos and plans for a 100-aircraft domestic airline in India. Two major announcements for the industry, even though nothing as exciting as the unveiling of the airline’s new Business Class, happening on the same day. The new QSuite concept will be retrofitted on to the existing Qatar Airways fleet starting from June 2017, at an estimated rate of one aircraft a month.

The lavish unveiling ceremony was attended by international media and guests of honor, including the Mayor of Berlin, Mr. Michael Müller and the Qatari Ambassador to Germany, His Excellency Sheikh Saoud Bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani. Everyone celebrated the launch of this groundbreaking new seat design, created over a period of 2 years.

Each seat is crafted with thoughtful and luxurious details such as hand-stitched Italian leather and satin rose gold finishing, bringing an unprecedented level of luxury, privacy, and style to Qatar Airways’ Business Class offering. QSuite features the industry’s first-ever double bed available in Business Class, with privacy panels that stow away, allowing passengers in adjoining seats to create their own private room.

Adjustable panels and movable TV monitors on the center four seats allow colleagues, friends or families traveling together to transform their space into a private suite, allowing them to work, dine and socialize together. These new features provide the ultimate customizable travel experience that enables passengers to create an environment that suits their own unique needs.

In addition to the existing decadent ‘dine on demand’ service, the new Business Class menu will now offer a selection of snack ‘sharing dishes’ available throughout the flight, allowing travelers to turn dining at 35,000 feet into a social experience. A wake-up Express Breakfast will also be available for those who choose to sleep a little longer by making the most of the ‘Do Not Disturb’ option available on the door of their private QSuite.

Qatar Airways claims record for world's longest flight

17 hours and 30 minutes – Qatar Airways claims the record for the worlds longest flight.

Qatar Airways just beat previous record holder Emirates for the world’s longest flight following the launch of its new service from Doha to to Auckland, New Zealand. With this new route it now claims the title of the world’s longest regularly scheduled airline flight by flying time.

Qatar Airways launched its inaugural flight to Auckland from Doha on Sunday on a Boeing 777 which holds 217 passengers in economy and 42 in business class. The Auckland to Doha route is said to take 17 hours and 30 minutes edging past Emirates’ Dubai to Auckland route that clocks 17 hours and 15 mins.

Qatar Airways CEO Akbar Al Baker, who traveled on board the inaugural flight, said the new Auckland service was “an important milestone” in the airline’s global expansion.

With many airlines adding ultra long haul flights to their timetables we are sure Qatar’s status won’t go unchallenged for long. Singapore Airlines may soon take the top spot when it resumes its non-stop flights to New York – a 19-hour service that could relaunch next year.

Qatar Airways A380 First Class suites

Qatar Airways A380 First Class suites come with caviar, spa like bathrooms and Armani kits.

Up until recently, we thought that the Paul Smith blankets were a great leap for airborne-kind. But the Georgio Armani washbags on Qatar Airways’ new Airbus A380 prove there’s always more room for luxury on an airline. So much room in fact that first class cabins have 48cm HD TV screens and seats measuring 23 inches wide.
The upper deck of the new Airbus A380 features eight first-class ‘suites’ that convert into fully flat 2.2 meter-long beds and come swathed in a soft woven fabric and leather, and decorated with engraved copper. Which is something you’d have already known had service not been delayed due to first-class cabins not being high enough. Talk about “high” end.
Speaking of, each suite is kitted out with, besides 48cm personal HD video screens, a huge video library, remotely controlled adjustable lighting and electrically operated window blinds. And when they’re done fishing out hit favorites and adjusting the blinds, passengers can sink their teeth into anything from caviar to Laduree macarons.
Another advantage of the on-demand, á la carte menu on board can be experiencing it over the tables, each of which folds out to create a dining space for two people. Not hungry? Then just head to the ‘sanctuary in the sky’ for drinks! A cavernous niche serves as a lounge and bar, decked in stunning Arabian-esque chandeliers, fresh flowers and large leather settees.
And if that weren’t indulgent enough, first class cabins also feature two bathrooms, each of which reportedly ‘creates a spa-like warmth’. And boasts a large sink with sensor-operated taps in addition to a wardrobe the size of a changing room, with pockets containing slippers, pyjamas and Giorgio Armani and Christian Dior amenity kits.
The aircraft has been configured to seat 517 passengers on twin decks- eight in first class, 48 in business, and 461 in economy. Flights on Doha-London Heathrow and Doha to Paris routes will begin operation on October 10th 2014 and fare for the first class round trip between London and Doha starts at €5,000 ($6,400).
